Located at the historic Amstelzijde, SAAM Restaurant is distinguished as the first establishment on the strip, marked by its iconic glass structure. Since November 9, 2022, it has welcomed guests to this unique riverside setting.
SAAM stands for South Africa-AMstel, while also meaning 'together' in Afrikaans. SAAM aims to demonstrate that a different approach to hospitality is possible—and perhaps even necessary. We combine a relaxed atmosphere with exceptional food and wine, supported by a highly attentive team. With a clear vision and extensive experience, the kitchen is led by Chef Jasper Hermans. He is joined by a team of top sommeliers, led by Bjorn van Aalst, dedicated to providing guests with a curated selection of fine wines and premium non-alcoholic pairings.
Our menu features a fusion of Dutch and South African cuisines, crafted exclusively with pure, honest, and seasonal ingredients. The South African influence is artfully reflected in our use of indigenous herbs and spices. While our wine list highlights the finest selections South Africa has to offer, we also feature a diverse range of European wines—truly the best of both worlds. Additionally, we take great pride in our signature non-alcoholic pairing, a carefully curated experience in its own right.
At SAAM restaurant, you will enjoy a relaxed dining experience characterized by personal attention and genuine hospitality, intentionally free from formal constraints. The ground floor accommodates 48 guests, including an exclusive Chef’s Table for 10, offering a front-row seat to our culinary craft. For those who prefer to gather at the bar, our upper bar provides 20 additional seats. During the summer, guests can enjoy our terrace, which seats 30 and features a private jetty for those arriving by boat.
